Sooo… here is the print we selected for the dinning room. Josephine’s pose just seems so lively. However our dear Josephine is nearly naked in the image. I’m not really the type of person to have a peep show in my dinning room; but I think I’m going to be making a concession here.
Here’s why you’ll be seeing this print in my dining room:
Josephine Baker dropped out of school at age 12 and went on to become a succesful vaudeville dancer first in New York during the Harlem Renaissance and then in France in the 1920s and 30s. Josephine became so fond of France that when WWII broke out she worked as a spy in occupied France gathering information from the Nazis by pinning the secrets she gathered into her underpants. After the war, Josephine supported the American Civil Rights movement. She refused to perform for segregated audiences in LA and even worked for the NAACP. As a part of her work with the NAACP Josephine spoke at the March on Washington by the side of Martin Luther King Jr in 1963.
