The Habitat ReStore

21 Apr

Dear Habitat for Humanity ReStore,

Today I stopped by your store to look for something for my kitchen counter top. On the way out I saw a large dumpster in the parking lot. Upon further inspection I noticed what seemed to be an antique oak bed frame in reasonably good condition inside. An employee from your store stepped out and I asked him if it was garbage and if I may have it if it would fit in my car. He agreed and I began to lift it out. I nearly had it out when a person who identified himself as the manager came out scolding me . He told me to get down and get away from the dumpster. This manager was very rude and abrasive.

I’d like to point out three things:

One: I asked before I touched anything in your dumpster and was given the ok.

Two: According to your website your mission is to:
“Promot[e] reuse and recycling”
You go further to say you “provide an environmentally and socially responsible way to keep good, reusable materials out of the waste stream while providing funding for Habitat’s community improvement work.”
So I’m really not sure why that bed was in the dumpster in the first place.

Three: Your manager was extremely rude and it was completely uncalled for.

Thanks,
IBB

Did you get the bed frame? I would have made a return visit at night if necessary.

No, I never got it. Truth be told it wasn’t going to fit in my car anyways. It was also 3/4 and not a full, light oak and victorian, none of which are really my style.
