A Productive Weekend

Here’s an updated look at the kitchen. I’ve painted the counter with the Rustoleum counter paint and I have to say I am pretty pleased with the results. I mean it’s nowhere near as nice as a new countertop would have been but for $20.00 I think it was a great solution. I do have two gripes though. First, you could only choose between 16 colors and this gray was as close as I was going to come to the black that I wanted.Second, it stinks real bad when you first start.

I also have most of the new backsplash up which cost way more than it was worth. It was 20.00 for each of the plastic panels and I needed 4 so it cost about 80.00. It is cheaper than tile and it will work until I get a the farmhouse sink,soapstone counters and subway tile for the backsplash that I want.

You might be wondering where the doors are. Welp here they are:

In the basement primed and ready for paint. Thanks to my buddy John who came by yesterday and was a MAJOR help lending me a hand to finish up all the projects I started and doing touch ups on my paint jobs around the house. These doors will have molding added to the edges before they return to the kitchen and also new hardware.

This afternoon after school I picked up an old metal cabinet to hold the microwave and my roommate’s odds and ends (such as the frog cookie jar) from a lady on Craigslist which will work just fine until I can afford to have a tall thin cabinet built around and over the fridge for more storage which I need badly. Speaking of cookie jars how does everyone feel about “Black Mammy” cookie jars? They just seem so classic kitchen to me but I feel like I might get a little flack about it. Thoughts?

More good news, the bathroom is functional again! After a flooded basement, a couple of trips to the HD and learning much more about plumbing we are in business! The board and batten paneling is not complete since the vertical strips are not in yet but most everything else is done which is great!

everything in both of these rooms besides the textiles was bought second-hand from Craigslist or thrift stores or estate sales so these rooms were pretty cheap to assemble. I have yet to hand items on the wall but I’d say things are coming together.
