I don’t know how long this will work, but once drains are clear, this is a recipe to keep them clear that I found on the web and use. Run as hot as you can get it hot water for 2-3 minutes then turn it off and pour in a whacking hunk of Clorox. I usually use about a cup. Then I let it sit for an hour or two, then flush with a lot of hot water. So far this has worked, although slowly the drains seem to not be so clear as they were originally.

I’m going to send some bleach down as you suggested to clean up whatever is left of that nasty black stuff. I figure it can only help!

p.s. You may want to call the city and ask them to check their street pipes first Where I lived before half the time that was the problem.
